Golden Oak’s 2026/27 Parent Handbook says there is no school uniform for this academic year. It also says a uniform will be introduced in the future, so families should check the current position before buying for a later year. For now, the handbook asks for comfortable, sensible clothing suited to school activities and suitable sports footwear on PE or sports-club days.

Preparing for school is easier when you separate three decisions: what your child will wear, what travels in the bag each day and what stays in the classroom. The guidance below helps you organise those questions for Kindergarten, Preschool and Primary.

Choose clothes for the actual school day

Use the school clothing guidance when choosing everyday outfits. It allows for active and sometimes messy play, recommends a warmer layer for air-conditioned classrooms and asks families to label belongings.

Before buying several copies of an outfit, consider how it will work during sitting, movement, outdoor play and bathroom visits. Check whether your child can manage its fastenings comfortably. Ask the class teacher if you are unsure about a particular item or an activity day.

Keep a spare layer somewhere predictable in the bag. If another adult handles collection or laundry, show them the same system so items are less likely to disappear between home and school.

What should children wear for PE?

The handbook calls for suitable footwear, such as trainers, on PE and sports-club days. Ask the teacher which days apply to your child and whether any activity-specific items are needed.

A simple weekly reminder can help: check the next day’s timetable while preparing the bag in the evening. If a timetable changes, update the reminder for everyone who helps with the morning routine. Your child can also help identify which shoes are ready for the next day.

Kindergarten and preschool packing

The preschool packing list asks for a bag that fits an A4 folder, a labelled water bottle and the specified food and stationery. For children under five, it includes two spare sets of clothes with underwear and socks. The labelled pencil case stays at school, with teachers notifying parents when supplies need replacing.

Keep spare clothing together so it can be found easily. Check it after use and when your child grows. A set that fitted at the start of the year may no longer be practical several months later.

For nap-time and bathroom questions, read starting kindergarten: toilet training, naps and readiness. Agree any rest-time belongings with the class teacher rather than packing them on assumption.

Primary school packing

The primary packing list includes a bag that fits books and folders, a labelled water bottle, food and a stocked pencil case. Parents are asked to replenish stationery and sharpen pencils at home. School textbooks are provided; consult the full class list before buying additional materials.

Invite your child to take part in checking the bag. Start with a few repeatable questions: is the bottle ready, are the required folders inside, and is the pencil case usable? Keep class notices alongside the checklist so an occasional request is not confused with an everyday requirement.

Meal choices are covered separately in the school lunches and snacks guide. Use the current school instructions for what your child needs to bring.

Check the full list before shopping

This article is a practical overview. The handbook contains detailed stationery lists and instructions about belongings, so read the relevant page before making a large purchase. If you already own an item that appears suitable, ask whether it meets the requirement before replacing it.

Label items consistently and check the condition of the labels after washing or regular use. When something is missing, ask the school about its lost-property arrangements and give a clear description of the item.

Confirm the position for your child’s year

The current no-uniform statement applies to 2026/27. The handbook does not establish a launch date for the future uniform. Before buying for a later academic year, check with Golden Oak and review the latest documents on the Parent Resources page.
