Learning Support Assistant (LSA)
A learning support assistant works alongside teachers to support a specific student's learning and development in the mainstream classroom. LSAs undertake a range of duties and responsibilities aimed at providing tailored support to students with diverse learning needs. Some of their key duties and responsibilities include:
- Learning development: Helping vulnerable children who may find it challenging to learn because they have existing difficulties.
- Adapting the curriculum: Modifying and adapting teaching materials and activities to suit the needs and abilities of a specific students , ensuring access to the curriculum and promoting inclusive learning experiences.
- Assisting with personal care and safety: Providing assistance with personal care tasks in accordance with school policies and procedures. Ensuring the student remains safe at all times. Responsible for the physical and emotional well-being of the child in your care.
- Promoting independence: Encouraging and supporting the student to develop independence and self-help skills.
- Behaviour management: Supporting the student in managing their behaviour and emotions. Provide guidance and reinforcement to promote positive behaviour.
- Facilitating communication/socialisation: Assisting the student with speech, language, and communication difficulties by using alternative communication methods. Assisting the student to socialise with other students safely.
- Collaboration: Collaborating with teachers, therapists, and other professionals involved in the student's care to ensure a coordinated approach to support and share information on student progress and needs.
- Monitoring and reporting: Observing and monitoring student progress, recording and reporting on achievements, challenges, and interventions, and contributing to progress reviews and meetings with parents and caregivers.
We will select applicants that have:
- A great personality, creativity, passion for early learning, communication skills, curiosity for early language learning and intercultural competencies
- A high sense of responsibility and dedication
- A high-level understanding of the Early Years Learning Framework.
- A passion for inclusion and inclusive education
- A recent First Aid Certificate/Asthma & Anaphylaxis.
- An understanding of and commitment to the British National Curriculum as well as Montessori philosophies of teaching
